As connoisseurs of art and aesthetics, we at thejewllerydiaries.com, laud all forms of creativity. Thus, when we came across this encouraging piece of news, we thought of sharing the same with our readers. One of the largest jewellery retail chains of India, Senco Gold & Diamonds launched a special ‘Pride Collection’ as a gesture to encourage the LGBTQ community. The exciting launch event was rounded off by a fashion show titled ‘Sphulingo – Freedom of Expression’. And quite obviously, walked the ramp some confident transgender men and women led by Professor (College Principal) & LGBT activist Dr. Manabi Bandyopadhyay.
As per the theme, everyone was dressed in Indian mythological characters. Up on the ramp were Sikhondi (Shankori Mandal); Mohini (Rintu); Raja Vongashon (Sandipta Chhetri); Chitrangada (Sayantani Ghosh); Raja Ela (Roma Mandal); Krishna Koli (Pritam Mondol); Brihhonnola (Bikram) and Chandi (Dr Manabi Bandyopadhyay). Dressed in gorgeous silhouettes, these impressive transgenders had the spotlight on them at the brand’s Mega Shop on CIT Road in Kolkata. Everyone was seeing having a ball clicking photographs with each other and an essence of oneness was omnipresent. This event was an extension of the global movement where the month of June is celebrated as the Pride Month across the world to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969 and to recognise the impact LGBTQ people have had in the world.
The Pride collection is very neat to look at and consists some very attractive gold and silver pendants named Trans Hearty, G-Rex and Less More and is equally wearable by one and all. We do applaud the brand’s endeavour to bestow dignity, visibility and equal rights for these communities.
