Gaurav Gupta is one of the most celebrated and progressive couturiers in India and a global name on the rise. He has undoubtedly carved a world that is future primitive, reflected through sculpture-like garments. As he completed 15 years in the business, Gaurav showcased his new couture collection ‘Undercurrent’ at FDCI India Couture Week. While his designed-outfits managed to grab eyeballs, it was his line of ‘Occasions Fine Jewellery,’ which he launched at the event, that caught everyone’s attention.
Designed by him, the fine jewels were adorned by all the models and showstoppers. Diipa Khosla, who was seen in an unending ethereal lehenga layered in ombre hues of champagne, perfected her outfit with a special Liberation necklace, designed in the shape of wings interwoven together, stylized to project the movement of a bird gracefully taking flight. Each piece of this necklace was set under a microscope, a delicate combination of rose-cut and full-cut diamonds- 8000 pieces in all, created over 8 months. The highlight of this Gaurav Gupta Occasions Fine Jewellery construction is that every feather is scooped from the backside to keep the necklace light on the wearer.
On the other hand, Diana Penty, who turned showstopper for the ace designer, accessorised her a sculpted mermaid-esque gown with statement ear cuffs from Gaurav Gupta Occasions Fine Jewellery, sculpting the ear with three exquisitely woven and specially shaped diamonds. The jewels lent an electric, yet feminine glitter to her look.
Well, just like the theatrical drapes in his garments, we must say that Gaurav Gupta has brought a paradigm shift in the way we view fine jewellery with his recently launched line.
