Shloka and Akash Ambani’s wedding did not have Beyonce, but it did have some high-profile bling in attendance. While Gen Z names like Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan ditched any major jewels or metallic accents, and went the minimal way; Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Kareena Kapoor icons opted to go for heavy duty statement jewellery.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt went with the trusted Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s newly released Spring/Summer collection, and wore a lemon yellow lehenga. She teamed it up with traditional layered choker, also designed by Sabya (Kolkatta) and ditched any other jewellery, to let the piece shine through. While Alia usually prefers pastels for festive wear, she goes low-key with her jewellery, often keeping it limited to a one-piece maximum.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

Summer pastels are on a roll this season. Kareena wore a breezy teal Manish Malhotra lehenga for the Ambani wedding, and paired it with an ornate choker with blue costume stones by Anjali Bhimrajka Fine Jewels (Mumbai). Colourful statement gemstones are set to have a huge year, as more and more designers are making them a part of their festive collection, and since millennials usually stay away from heavy metallic numbers. Kareena, who usually goes for metallics when it comes to ethnic wear, keeps it fresh with a minimal lehenga, but switches it up with a statement neck piece.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika also opted for something from Sabyasachi’s new line. She wore a sheer summer pink saree, and surprisingly went for some vintage and heavy gemstones from his jewellery range. Sabyasachi’s (Kolkatta) heritage-inspired summer jewellery line makes big use of pearls, which can lend a touch of old school to any ensemble. What surprised us was the use of garnet. But then again, Sabya can make anything work. It’s interesting how instead of opting for the more obvious gemstones, Deepika goes for vintage bling, but her look was aimed to have a low-key vibe.

Vidya Balan

Vidya masterfully keeps it chic with just a pair of heavy chandelier jhumkas from Tyaani Jewellery (Mumbai). Notice how Vidya ditches flashy gems to accent her cream coloured saree.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif never disappoints us with festive dressing, and for the Ambani wedding too, she chose a breezy blue palette. Notice how she enhances the neckline of her lehenga by going for an elaborate neck-skimming piece by Tanishq (Bengaluru).

Isabel Kaif

We were pleasantly surprised with Isabel’s desi avatar. The Kaif girl follows in her sister Katrina’s footsteps by favouring pastels, and by choosing jewellery which will not overstep her colour palette. Isabel sports a retro-inspired jadau necklace from Nora Jewels (Mumbai) and a set of bangles from Gehna Jewels (Mumbai).

Jahnvi Kapoor

The Kapoor girl obviously got the millennial memo, and kept it really classy by opting for platinum ringlet style danglers from Gehna Jewellers (Mumbai) The platinum-silver shade is one of the very few shades which makes a fuschia colour pop, and Jahnvi’s styling team obviously made the most of it.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma usually keeps it old school when it comes to desi statement wear, and this time too, she chose a Zubeidaa-like off-white and gold saree to go along with her metallic choker designed by Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers (Jaipur). We love how Lolo keeps the colour tone in check, and does not overdo it on the metallic bling.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka chose to wear let her beautiful sheer mint icy saree do the talking, and just accented her look with some matching earrings and statement ring from Jaipur Gems, (Mumbai) and a bracelet by Mehta and Sons (Mumbai).

Kiara Advani

We never really thought emeralds would make a cream-coloured lehenga pop so well, but Kiara obviously got it right. She went for a stunning zari lehenga, and paired her look with an excellent emerald choker from Amrapali (Jaipur) drop earrings from Karishma Joolry, a bespoke but simple Maangtika- Anmol Jewellers (Mumbai) and heavy Kadas designed by Satyani Fine Jewels (Mumbai).
